Young Companions Corner

Phạm Hữu Quang

Dear Young Companions in Christ,

Lately, my wife and I have been deprived of sleep.  Ever since JP (John-Paul, our 9-month old baby) caught the flu, which lasted seven days, he has kept waking up several times a night.  Once, in the middle of the night, he awakened me four times in a span of three hours.  After the fourth time, I grew impatient and raised my voice at him.  He responded with a louder cry than before.  Watching him cry miserably, my heart melted, and all of my weariness disappeared into the night.  This love story continues...

How does one build a loving and caring family?  Which areas of family life need attention the most?  How does one keep a good communication with one’s parents?

The topics of our newsletter this year focus on family life, which we hope, will provide some answers to the tough questions aforementioned.  The family is one of the four areas of service documented in our 5-year action plan at the end of 1997.  The coordinators for this ministry are anh Hưng and chị Kim-Anh, who will also receive help from other couples in different regions.  For the dialogue to be complete and fruitful, however, we need suggestions and stories from the youth such as yourself.  So if you have any concerns, questions, or sharings, we’d love to hear from you.

The production of our newsletter has returned to Orange County, California, at the turn of the New Year.  I sincerely thank anh Liêm and chị Anh-Vinh, anh Đạt and chị Hải, anh Long, chị Liên-Hương, and many more dedicated individuals in the Northeast region.  They have contributed much time and effort in producing our newsletter the past three years.  The Dong-Hanh newsletter has always been a source of inspiration for many readers on our spiritual journey.  These individuals helped make it happen!  The same appreciation extends to các anh chị in the Editorial Team.  The Editorial Team works in cyberspace mostly; thus, regardless of where the actual production of the newsletter took place, these individuals continue to work hard in getting articles for every issue.  We will always remember their efforts and generosity in providing this valuable service to so many people.

I am also happy to introduce our new Coordinator of Youth Ministry, Trần Thu Hường, also known as Jessica Tran.  For the past several years, chú Đạt has taken great care of the youth ministry.  Chú Đạt has a deep passion for you, the young people of Dong-Hanh.  I know he would go out on a limb for you, whether to organize and lead a retreat or to raise funds so some of you can attend the annual Dong-Hanh gathering.  Today, chú Đạt will continue to support the youth ministry, but under a more humble role.  Thank you, anh Đạt, for your love and dedication to the youth of Dong-Hanh.  Thank you, Hường, for your willingness to serve in this ministry.

May the love and grace of Jesus Christ continue to be with each of you as we walk together on this journey.

In Christ’s love,

Quang
